Finally, a Resident Evil Movie That Makes You Feel The Game!

Zack Cregger took a lot of crap from Resident Evil fans who were upset he wasn't telling a story based on characters from the game… And it was the right call!

Cregger's Resident Evil is more an experience than a movie. A non stop thrill ride that not only captures the heart of survival gaming, but makes you feel you are participating in one.

Cregger's intentional walk thru movie experience is punctuated with a stellar performance by Austin Abrams who plays the main character Bryan, a medical organ delivery guy caught in the middle of the worst night of his life.

Abrams is perfect in the role as the non action hero who somehow has to survive the start of the T-virus as it quickly infects Raccoon City.

Bordering on horror comedy, Resident Evil captures Cregger's absurd humor horror that made him stand out in his previous films Barbarian and Weapons. Inspired by Evil Dead 2, Cregger somehow manages to capture the heart of Ash in Bryan as he attempts to survive one obstacle after the next.

More than a video game adaption, despite tense first person camera angles and non stop action, Cregger manages to create a layered character in Bryan with an emotional backstop that makes you cheer for him.

Resident Evil is in my opinion the best of the 8 films that have been made. While I would have preferred a different ending, it honors the game in a realistic way. For those disappointed they didn't get an original game story, I agree with Cregger. That story has been told. I prefer to experience resident evil in theaters than watch an adaptation with less creativity. It's worth a trip to the theater to see this! Grade: A-
