Will RESIDENT EVIL Live up to the Expectations of a Zach Cregger film? (WEAPONS, BARBARIAN)

Game fans are already on the attack upset that Cregger is straying from the original game timeline and leaving out beloved characters like Leon Kennedy. His knowledge of the franchise has also been brought into question despite the fact that Zach insists he is a long time fan of the games.

This movie was heavily influenced by Resident Evil 4 and 7, and he wants the movie to replicate the actual feeling of playing survival horror even though it is an original story.

I have a Concern and a Reason for Hope!

CONCERN: One of the things that makes this director so good is his uncanny ability to make you burst with nervous laughter by creating absurd tension in a scene. Take WEAPONS for example and the scene where the mind controlled mother is creepily walking out to the car with a pair of scissors. I watched the movie three times in theaters and each time the audience was freaked with laughter. It was great.

Unfortunately, Cregger has removed much of the humor from the film after test screenings and while he feels like audiences like the film better, I am concerned that we are going to lose the element that really makes both Weapons and Barbarian stand out amidst a throng of recent horror flicks... the Cregger touch.

HOPE: I trust Cregger. Everything he's made has been good and the studio has given him control of Resident Evil, so it doesn't seem like he's operating under someone else's control. If he truly likes this movie better without the humor, then I am going to trust his decision... until I don't.

Ultimately, I am walking into this movie with optimism and the promise if a $35 Million plus opening weekend. Resident Evil is expected to be the biggest Domestic opening in franchise history and considering the success of Paul W.S. Anderson's movies, that's saying something.
