Move over Jurassic franchise, there is something leaner! (80’s kids will get the Sizzlean reference) Terrible Lizard movies are back in this 1980’s styled Science Fiction movie about a family who finds themselves far from home despite never leaving it!
David Robert Mitchell’s 99 minute ode to Steven Spielberg 80’s adventure movies did exactly what we wanted it to do. Don’t make a dinosaur movie… make a compelling Science Fiction story and sprinkle the lizards on top.
Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor play Denise and Greg Platt along with their two children Audrey and Brian played by Maisy Stella and Christian Convery.
Mitchell uses what he learned making It Follows and applies his movie making principles here creating a slow build that continuously turns up the tension as the movie builds.
Not a perfect movie, there are a couple unnecessary scenes and quite a bit of character actions that make you scratch your head, but by the end of the movie you feel that the characters and you have earned everything you just went through.
If you are tired of Jurrasic World retread movies, go see this one in the theater and let studios know we are ready for better Dinosaur movies!
