VisionQuest Poised to be Best Superhero Show Since Daredevil
Sorry Lanterns, There's Something Leaner
Showrunner Terry Matalas is the key. Unlike Chris Mundy who was in charge of Lanterns, Matalas has more of a trust but verify style when it comes to his writers room. There won't be any podcast hijinks from rogue writers pontificating about the societal implication of Vision while making judgements on people based on race, gender and upbringing.
On top of this Matalas will be directing the final 2 episodes of the series to ensure it is brought to the conclusion that he envisions. See 12 Monkeys and Picard S3 to understand how Matalas weaves a narrative with his writers room. 12 Monkeys is THE standard for a time travel series. Picard S3 is the best Star Trek made since Enterprise... oh yeah Matalas cut his teeth on Star Trek Voyager and Enterprise. He literally learned from the best science fiction creatives.
Add Paul Bettany and James Spader and you have the recipe for amazing television.
Kevin Feigi gave Matalas VisionQuest as a blank slate. He's able to do what he wants on this show. This is important because at his core, he is just a Nerd. A Geek that thinks, believes and feels like the rest of us who were raised on classic science fiction. And he truly believes in honoring what came before. All while prioritizing Story, Casting and Canon.
Also... Todd Stashwick is in it (IYKYK).
Terry was the one who wanted James Spader and Ultron in the show, which is going to add so much humor and levity balanced with incredible drama and emotion.
My prediction is it will be the most enjoyable superhero show you've watched since 2015's Daredevil and it has the potential to even be better than that!
VisionQuest airs October 14.
